Irish Projects Receiving Funding
Ballymun Job Centre
Comprising five partners, Our Social Europe is a Civil Society Project funded by Europe for Citizens. It aims to increase civic engagement of citizens in urban disadvantaged areas with local level decision making, deepening the EU agenda for 'Community Led Local Development'. The project received €150,000 in 2015.
The Crocus Project
The Crocus Project is an Irish initiative whereby the Holocaust Educational Trust of Ireland provides yellow Crocus bulbs for school pupils aged 11 years and older to plant in memory of the 1.5 million Jewish children who perished in the Holocaust and thousands of other children who were victims of Nazi atrocities.
Smashing Times Theatre Co.
Women, War and Peace is a European Remembrance project using creative processes to explore the role of women in Europe from WW2 to the present, as well as the power of the EU in promoting peace and gender equality today. This Irish theatre company were awarded €100,000 in Europe for Citizens funding in 2015.
Killarney Town Twinning
Killarney is twinned with 5 towns in Europe. In early 2017 they applied to Europe for Citizens and received €5000 for their twinning which took place in August of the same year, involving their German twin Pleinfeld.
The Monaghan town of Carrickmacross is twinned with Carhaix in Brittany. Youth engagement is central to this community-led town twinning project that also fosters cultural and economic knowledge-sharing. A grant of €7500 was awarded to the committee in 2015 and they reapplied in 2016 for the same amount.
